As an avid traveler, I have tried sushi in many states: California, Arizona, Florida, Maine, Nevada ... Nothing compares to Mitsui sushi. My boyfriend and I are always excited to get home and go to "our" place. The food is always fresh and consistent. The atmosphere could be improved but let's be honest, you're not going there for the ambiance. The food is so delicious you're not even paying attention to your suroundings. I went the other day with a couple of friends and I have to say it was a nice cozy place to spend the day with a couple of friends. The sushi was tasty, the service was great. They were so polite and friendly. To the person below, this is Canada. Not Japan or anywhere else in Asia, where their specialties are Asian food. Also didn't help the fact you had high expectations going in which could have affected your overall impression. "Worst sushi" is not something I would use for this restaurant. I definitely recommend it for a night out with your friends and family or even just a lunch with a friend. Read more

I've probably been here 3 or 4 times now. I keep coming back because the service is so good! Not to mention the food is fantastic (the complimentary crunchy soup is to die for). The last time I went, my table got the spider roll, seaweed salad, green dragon roll, spicy salmon roll, and some other roll (I can't remember the name). They were delicious! All was served in a sequential manner; we were served complimentary soup immediately as we sat down, then we ordered, after which we were served complimentary green salad while we waited for our rolls. We were never without food! With all that's included with the rolls, the value is really great. Although it's not too impressive from the outside, the inside is pretty good. It's not fancy, but very laid back. I took my grandmother here for her first sushi experience, and she loved it. I had such good service today, that I had to give these guys some publicity! While Zen is our favourite Japanese Restaurant, my boyfriend and I have enjoyed dining here for their enoki maki (thin slices of beef wrapped around enoki-Japanese mushrooms). Their nigiri and sashimi while delicious is not a priority for us to order as they serve very thin small pieces for the price you pay. We have also had their sukiyaki (we cook ourselves on the table) and it is large enough for 3 people, although much more expensive ($60 for 2 people which includes rice and raw egg for dipping) than other restaurants where we have enjoyed the same. The sukiyaki comes traditionally (as they served), with slices of thin sukiyaki beef, tofu, Chinese cabbage, green onion, oyster mushrooms, shitake mushrooms and regular mushrooms, transparent thin noodles and onion. Their broth was excellent-not too sweet. A great meal to have on a cold day. Read more

I often go here for lunch since I work nearby. The Japanese chef is very friendly and welcoming. I've had an incredibly pleasant experience every time just being in this quiet and calm restaurant (although every once in a while it's absolutely full with a lunch crowd!) I like the sushi, salmon nigiri in particular, and their uni is very very good. They don't carry toro at all, by choice. Squid, scallop, hamachi, all great. Rolls are very lovely presented. Everyone I've ever taken with me to this place has enjoyed it, whether they were sushi-addicted like me or just into it once in a while. I'm definetly going back. Read more

This review is way past due; I've been coming here frequently for over 5 years now for no reason other than it is FANTASTIC. The master chef and his wife are such lovely people who's efforts and dedication to the restaurant really have a great influence on the atmosphere. Did I mention that the food is amazing? The rolls are made fresh and just simply really well. I love the design of the seating area and how the booths are separated it really gives a cozy feel to the place. I am a patron using a disbility device and while the restaurant is not "accessible" perse they do their best to make you feel comfortable. Now aside from that, I've been visiting this restaurant for roughly 20 years. My Mother and I found it a long time ago looking for a good Japanese restaurant that wasn't all the way downtown. The have great sushi, sashimi, tempura, teriyaki, soups & my favourite Japanese style salad! Decor could use an update but it's clean and comfortable. There's a hidden entry from parking behind the restaurant or the double doorway at the front. Last night I decided to eat in for the first time since becoming differently abled so to speak. I had the Legend Boston roll with crab, Japanese mayonaise and salmon topper. It was very rich so I suggest if you try this do it with several people so everyone can have a taste, it was lovely but too rich for just one person to demolish. I had the shrimp tempura dinner which has tempura vegetables with it. Last night the tiger shrimp were lovely and fresh and the mix of vegetable composed of squash, sweet potato, onion and broccoli were very yummy. They make amazing tempura sauce. The meal comes with salad, miso soup, rice and huge plate of tempura so again great for sharing! I took home a cucumber roll for my son but seriously considered their toonie Tuesday offer which is a California roll, max of 2 given the offer, but my son is new to Japanese os a simple cucumber roll. I have plenty left over for lunch and am hoping the tempura will crisp up under the broiler today! Thanks to A.J. & staff for making it a lovely experience with my needs ;o) Read more

I come to this place because it is close proximity to where I live. The atmosphere of this place is amazing. There are booths set up like Japanese-styled rooms, jazz music is played in the background (okay not authentic, but meh), the chopsticks are placed in either bamboo boxes or in mini-kimonos. The food, well, it really depends on what your order. I give top marks to the rolls they have, and I especially recommend the Toronto and Monster rolls, those two are unique in their own ways. I didn't like their sushi and sashimis, found their fish rather not fresh. The ramen and udons are excellent. Tempura is a no-go. Service-wise is quite wishy washy due to a lack of staff, especially if you're sitting by the booths. The ring for service technique is ineffective; even I can't tell how the mechanism will notify waitresses that you need assistance. They are very friendly though. Will I visit again? Yes, of course. We both ordered Tempura Udon. The food was no doubt one of the best in Toronto with regards to quality and quantity. Server was okay and service was good. However the other guy behind the counter was snobbish. My friend called for the bill and signalled the guy. The guy just looked at my friend for a few seconds not showing any acknowledgement or emotion which made us think this was something. He just moved away from the counter and continued doing what he was doing. Our server came with the bill shortly and I asked if her colleague understood my friend. We then realized that the guy did understand my friend's request for the bill but he did not show a bit of reaction or acknowledgement. I consider that disrespectful. A little thing. We sat on the long sofa. It was comfortable but due to the depth of the sofa it was hard to sit down and get up considering it took so much space under the table. Read more

The food here is very good but only slightly better than the cheaper places in the area. The teppanyaki tables are good. The sushi is fresh. The prices are high and the portions are not particularly large. So why would someone choose this place over its cheaper competitors? It's the decor and the service that makes this place stand out. From the moment you step in out of the snow, you are surrounded by tasteful Japanese decor. In the main dining area, the place is elegant, simple and to the point.
