Optometrists measure your eye vision and can refer you to an ophthalmologist if any eye surgery is required. An ophthalmologist is a medical professional that specialises in eye diseases.
  • Referrals: Friends and family members who’ve worn eyeglasses or contacts for a long time are you best referrals for optometrists or opticians. They most likely deal with their favourite optometrist once or twice a year or replace their frames on a regularly basis with a particular optician.
  • Credentials: An optician should be accredited by a provincial technical college whereas an optometrist and an ophthalmologist should be recognised by your province’s medical board. A good optometrist or ophthalmologist will have residency experience.
